A cask is the wooden vessel that Whiskey is stored in while it matures and plays a critical role in developing flavors. Casks can come in all different sizes and wood types, but the most common type used for Whiskey is a 200L ex-bourbon barrel originally used to mature American Bourbon. Whiskey is also matured in other types of casks like sherry, wine, and tequila, each bringing unique flavors to the spirit.
